Sunshine Coast Immediate Dentures

Immediate dentures, also called transitional, interim or temporary dentures are made to replace unhealthy teeth or teeth lost to trauma and accident. They assist the ‘transition’ from having natural dentition in to denture wearing.

Immediate dentures are referred to for both partial and complete dentures which are inserted in to the mouth at the time of tooth extraction, so you’ll never be without your smile! It is a process whereby the dentures are planned and fabricated while your natural teeth still remain.

We will consult with you, liaise and coordinate dental extraction appointments with your dentist, plan the dentures and fabricate them right here on-site. Once your new immediate denture is completed and ready, you can pick the denture up from The Denture Kitchen and take them to your dentist for tooth extraction and immediate insertion of the dentures, meaning you won’t be without teeth!

The dentures are used as a functional and aesthetic solution while your gums are healing as a result of tooth extraction.

Understanding Emotional Impact

The Denture Kitchen understands and appreciates that this process can, in some cases, be quite emotional with almost all dentures being a very personal experience. Having poor oral health may impact you social and professional activities—in most cases, this process dramatically improves self-esteem and we’ll do our best to help get that confidence back. We will try to explain and guide the process with the least amount of fuss, and the most care and attention to your new teeth.

The main thing to remember with immediate dentures is that they are generally produced for a very specific purpose: to help replace unhealthy teeth, which means there is a lot of information to cover.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are immediate dentures?

Immediate dentures are dentures made before tooth extractions and inserted on the same day your teeth are removed. They are used to provide a temporary solution during the healing period, helping you give the appearance of teeth while your gums recover. Immediate dentures can be made for either full or partial replacement, depending on your needs.

  • How is an immediate denture made?

An immediate denture is made while your natural teeth are still in place. We take impressions and prepare the denture based on the planned extractions. Once the denture is ready, it’s picked up from The Denture Kitchen and taken to your dentist to be inserted immediately after your teeth are removed. Adjustments or relines may be needed later.

  • Will I need another denture after healing?

Yes, in most cases a second denture is recommended after healing. Immediate dentures are designed as a temporary option. Once the gums have settled and the mouth has changed shape, a reline or new long-term denture may be needed for improved fit and comfort. This is typically discussed during follow-up reviews.

  • Can I eat normally with an immediate denture?

Eating with an immediate denture may take some time to adjust. Soft foods are often recommended at first. As healing progresses and you become familiar with the denture, your eating ability may improve. We provide information about what to expect and how to care for the denture during this stage.
