Sunshine Coast Mouthguard
PREVENT INJURY! GUARD YOUR SMILE!
Let your creative side run free and allow The Denture Kitchen to make a custom mouthguard that not only looks and feels great, but will—more importantly—increase the protection of your mouth while playing your favourite sports.
A custom mouthguard based on an impression of your mouth is designed to absorb and spread the impact of a potentially damaging blow which may cause injury to the mouth. A mouthguard is made from an EVA-vacuum formed material that adds multi-layer protection.
For most team sports, it is a requirement to play with a mouthguard. No Mouthguard, No Play policies exist at some sports clubs, but you don’t have to be playing high impact team sports to wear a mouthguard. A mouthguard can be used while playing most sports for added protection. For your own oral protection, a mouthguard should be a mandatory piece of equipment.
Types of sports related dental injuries can include:
- Broken teeth
- Knocked out teeth
- Chipped teeth
- Concussion
- Broken jaw
- Cut lips, gums, cheeks, tongue
Shaped from Clinical Impressions
While not only increasing protection and defence against collision, a custom mouthguard can improve speech, communication and the ability to breathe compared to a store-bought boil and bite mouthguard by having a superior cohesive full coverage fit and even occlusal contact.
For younger patients that still have emerging teeth, The Denture Kitchen can accommodate for these erupting teeth, so the mouthguard will last the whole season for our growing future sports superstars!
The cost of an injury to the teeth or jaw far exceeds the cost of a custom fitted mouthguard, and repair work to natural teeth does not last forever.
Remember, you are at just as much risk during training as you are during the game.
The Denture Kitchen will take care of everything—from impression taking, fabrication and fitting of your mouthguard, while making everyone feel comfortable with the process.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need a custom mouthguard?
A custom mouthguard is shaped to fit your teeth and jaw using a dental impression. This fit may help keep the mouthguard stable during activity and may reduce the risk of dental injuries. Custom mouthguards are commonly used in sport and physical activity where contact or falls may occur. They are often required by sports clubs under no-play policies.
How is a custom mouthguard made?
A custom mouthguard is made using an impression of your upper teeth. At The Denture Kitchen, this is taken in-clinic and used to form the mouthguard from EVA material. The appliance is trimmed and fitted to suit your bite and adjusted as needed. Instructions are also provided on how to wear it, store it and check for damage over time.
When should a mouthguard be replaced?
A mouthguard should be replaced if it becomes loose, damaged, worn or no longer fits properly. Younger users may need a new mouthguard more frequently as teeth develop or shift. It’s also encouraged to check the mouthguard at the start of each season or after dental work. The Denture Kitchen can assess the fit and provide replacement when needed.
Can children get custom mouthguards?
Yes, custom mouthguards can be made for children, including those with emerging teeth. At The Denture Kitchen, we account for erupting teeth in the design to help the mouthguard last through the season. A proper fit is recommended for both comfort and coverage. A consultation is encouraged to assess whether a custom mouthguard is suitable for your child’s current dental stage.
